Didn't make it to GW yesterday due to it being closed on Wednesdays. Might try again today though there is a ton I have to do. Turkey prep aiming for 7:30 dinner. Did end up making a pie and some Zucchini bread.
Sitting in England - just took a freshly baked pie out of the oven. Great day out - so hopefully I'll get to head out soon. Windy :-) Reading Eisenhorn - part way through the 1st book. Not quite a good as Gaunt - but that might be due to the 1st person perspective. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving.
Today HR brought the Del's Lemonade truck to work. Spent an hour sitting out in the sun at the park across the street enjoying brain freeze due to eating the Del's too quickly. First time I've actually used the park and I think I've been missing out. I'll have to go out there to read more often I think.
The 2nd Del's was a mistake though. The crash after the sugar rush was not fun at all.
This past weekend I was out in the sun and burned both legs pretty badly. It's been a few days and the pain is pretty much gone...but it's been replaced by terrible itchiness especially around my ankles. This just goes to show that humans and the sun don't really mix well anymore.
This summer is flying by and I don't know how to slow it down. It feels like it was just turning into June with lots of upcoming events and now several weeks later and all the weddings and birthdays and weekends packed full of geekdom are all over and around the corning is September and the tail end of the year.
Yesterday I headed up to Andover to to visit Sam. Our first adventure brought us to his favorite gaming store Myriad games. I was actually impressed with the selection of available goods as well as the customer service. I left the store with 5 marines and a paint set. Sam and I took the rest of the afternoon to begin painting. I was able to get do my first 3 marines while Sam worked on his Ork trukk. I wish I had a picture of the trukk as its it looking rather garish - especially with the Orkish grafiti all over it.
Below is a picture of my first 5 completed marines. I decided to go with my own color scheme rather than selecting one of the standard ones. I think they are looking rather good - although I'm still learning how to manage paint levels. I didn't want to go pure white with the armor - if you look their armor is actually dry brushed white which gives it some interesting textures. We'll see if I still like it in a week.
For the last 2 days I've spent the majority of it sitting in an uncomfortable chair locked away in a room somewhere in the bowels of the Providence judiciary. I was not alone - no indeed there were about 60 other people sharing the same fate as myself. For 2 days we sat there - some talking with one another, others starting blindly across the room oblivious to the world around them. Luckily I thought ahead and brought a very long book. In the end I was not chosen for a trial. My obligations to the state are now complete for the a minimum of 3 years. But with my luck April 2012 I'll be sitting in that room yet again.
It's been a couple weeks since my last post. Since then I've been pretty much on the go. I was in England for a week enjoying doing as little as humanly possible and not thinking about work for a change. I returned to discover that I have Jury duty coming up this week. While I'm pretty sure I won't be picked I still have to sit in the court house for 2 days while they decide. Hopefully it won't be too boring - but I'm going to make sure that I have a book to read and a notebook to do some note taking at least, maybe do a bit of writing. It's been a while and as the seasons change my inspiration seems to return.
Meanwhile I've been slowly sucked into the Warhammer 40k Universe much to Sam's delight. I'm now the proud owner of the Space Marine half of the Assault on Black Reach model set. While I've yet to get around to putting the marines together and painting them(mainly due to a lack of glue and time) I'm looking forward to one of those lazy afternoons where I'll be able to do so. I'm also on my 3rd 40k Omnibus. After reading SpaceWolf, The Founding, and The Saint, I'm currently on Caiaphas Cain: Hero of the Imperium Omnibus. I'm really enjoying reading these as WH40k is a huge new world for me to explore.
Today I have to go get my car looked at after work. Hopefully it'll be easy repair work to the bumper. The good news is that the other guys insurance company accepted liability - so I don't have to pay for any of it - nor the rental car.
After I'm heading to the British Beer Company(2nd time this week) for BOGO pizza night. Looking forward to that Buffalo chicken pizza.
In 2008 I read 57 books. While not a record by any means the fact I read as many as I did is good as it was also a very busy year for me. It's interesting to note that I both started and ended the year with a Terry Goodkind book. Whats in store for me for 2009? Well..I have 10 new books sitting on my shelf awaiting, plus a bunch more that I've noted I want to read.
